“The Rockingham Museum is a community museum which is managed by the Rockingham District Historical Society Inc and is committed to the collection, preservation, documentation and interpretation of the heritage of Western Australia in General with the emphasis on the history of Rockingham District, for future education and enjoyment of the wider community.”

The Rockingham Museum is situated on the corner of Flinders Lane and Kent Street, Rockingham
Opening hours are 1pm to 4pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Closed last Saturday of each month from February to November, for General Meeting and Talk -Public Welcome to come to Talk and Meeting.
Admission fees are Adults $2.50 and children under 12 years 50c

The Museum
The Rockingham Museum is housed in an Art Deco building, the former Rockingham Road Board Building built in 1946/47.It was extended in 1988 to join the library building which become part of the museum building in 1999.
There are numerous displays throughout the museum depicting a variety of aspects of our history.
History of Rockingham
Rockingham was named after the Ship Rockingham the last of Thomas Peel’s ships to arrive in Cockburn Sound in 1830. The Rockingham flounded in Cockburn Sound and eventually sunk in Carreening Bay, Garden Island.
In 1847 Rockingham Town was surveyed at the beachfront but the township did not eventuate.
The Society
The Rockingham District Historical Society was formed in 1969 as a branch of the Royal West Australian Historical Society, we are now an affiliated member, we are also a member of Museum Australia.
The Rockingham Museum was first opened in 1974 at a site in Marine Terrace it has operated from the current site since 1979.one of the aims of the society is to maintain the museum and library.
