Talk on- “Garden Island Stories Project"
Richard will be telling us about a project he is undertaking to record and tell the stories of Garden Island.
Here is how Richard explains his project....
This project aims to record memories and stories of Garden Island as a holiday destination, as told by people who either stayed or visited there.
As a young boy, I was lucky to spend summer holidays on the island, staying in a small shack overlooking Careening Bay. We lived 'off the grid', made up our own games, and roamed largely free of adult supervision - things that few Australian children today (and no doubt even fewer in the future) will probably experience.
I am filmmaker and previously lecturer in the Dept. of Film & Television at Curtin University. My passion is visual storytelling - finding the 'extraordinary' in the ordinary. I will share with you my work to date on the project, as well as some of my own special memories of Garden Island.
